A cosmetologist is a hair stylist that must be able to transform her clients from average to amazing in one sitting. Cosmetologists need to know the latest trends, cuts, and styles in hair. To get a cosmetologist license, you must attend a beauty and/or cosmetologist school to receive certification and also pass the state board exam.

  1. Empire Beauty School

    • Empire Beauty School offers two programs for students: Cosmetology and Cosmetology Educator Training. The cosmetology program educates students on how to include the latest trends in hair-cutting and coloring on women, men and children. The students also learn about hair cleansing, cutting and styling techniques, color and texture services, business development, and makeup. The Cosmetology Educator Training program is offered for licensed cosmetologists to pursue a different career field. This programs develops teachers by using the school's exclusive curriculum, instructional techniques as well as training to develop lesson plans. Empire Beauty School fulfills the licensing requirements for states that require a teaching license.

    Jean Madeline Aveda Institute

    • The Jean Madeline Aveda Institute has been around since 1987, though at the time was named Jean Madeline Education Center for Cosmetology. This school offers four different programs: Cosmetology, Esthiology, Makeup and a Teacher's program. The Cosmetology program enables students to explore the latest trends and techniques in hair cutting, coloring and texture services, skin care, nail technology and makeup. Students are required to learn professional business building, retail knowledge as well as income-enhancing abilities. The Esthiology program enables students to study specialized techniques to purify, balance and renew the skin, which is all hands-on training. Students also learn business building skills and retail knowledge. In the makeup program, students have a choice between a two-day or a five-day course. The five-day course is taught by Rudy Miles, a celebrity makeup artist. This course lets the student explore the skills necessary to work as a makeup artist in today's very competitive industry. This course ends with a photo shoot of your work . The Teacher Program provides a total of 500 hours of additional education to prepare the student as a licensed Cosmetology instructor. The Jean Madeline Aveda Institute is accredited by The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences and, because of this accreditation, the school provides financial aid to qualifying students.

    Kimberly's Beauty School

    • Kimberly's Beauty School offers four courses: Cosmetology, Esthetician, Nail Technician, and a Training course. The Cosmetology course teaches students the skills required to become a professional hairstylist. This particular course is designed so students can pass the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology Examiners Test. The course also teaches students how to work with men and women's hair. Students practice cutting, styling, coloring, shaving and shampooing. The Esthetician Course has students concentrate on the health, care and attractiveness of the skin as well as the artistic uses of different cosmetics. The Nail Technician course teaches students about nail structure, manicuring and pedicuring techniques. The students can apply these skills in the student clinic, for complete hands on. This course also includes instruction for sculptured nail application and maintenance. The Teaching Training course offers already-licensed cosmologists to go into the cosmetology teaching profession. Kimberly's Beauty School is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology and is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Art and Sciences. Since the school is accredited, financial aid is available to qualifying students.

    The Vision Academy

    • The Vision Academy offers four programs: Cosmetology, Esthetics, Nails and Instructor. The Cosmetology program enables the student to learn about design, cutting, coloring, multicultural techniques, makeup, and the art of hairdressing. The Esthetics program teaches the student about international skin treatments, speed waxing, skin analysis, makeup and ingredient technology. The Nail Academy teaches about creativity for the nail industry. Students are taught the latest trends, learn about speed and meeting the consumers' wants and needs. They have hands-on practice to deliver the latest in nail enhancement advances. The Vision Academy is accredited by National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences and offers financial aid to those who qualify.
