Homemade 4th of July Decorations
Homemade decorations give the 4th of July a personal touch. Decorating for Independence Day is often bright and festive. The celebration of America's birthday typically includes bright red, white and blue pieces in association with the colors of the United States flag. While available commercially, decorations may be made at home as a family project or just for the individuality factor. Does this Spark an idea?

Door Wreaths
-
One way to decorate for the 4th of July holiday is with a door wreath. Placed on the outside of the home, it lets all who pass know that the dwellers are celebrating the day in style. Creating a door wreath may be achieved with construction paper, cardboard, scissors and glue. Cut out a ring of cardboard into the desired shape and size of the wreath. Cut out stars in various sizes from red, white and blue construction paper and glue onto the cardboard. Add a bow fade from matching ribbon for a finishing touch. Adding glitter to the edges of the cut-out stars will add a festive look, as would substituting shiny wrapping paper for construction paper.
Table Cloths
-
Many 4th of July celebrations are marked with a barbecue or other dinner event. This factor puts focus on the table. While commercial tablecloths are available decorated for the holiday, a homemade cloth may make the day just that much more special to guests. A plain white cloth may be turned into the stripes of the American flag with a bit of paint. Measure and trace straight lines from one end of the cloth to the other. Paint every other space red. Paint a few blue stars onto the cloth or glue on cut-out stars from construction paper or gift wrap.

Star Flowers
-
A bouquet of flowers is a popular decoration for many holiday occasions. For the 4th of July, a star flower bouquet may be the most appropriate. By cutting out red, white and blue stars from poster board, anyone can create this decoration. Glue two of the cut out stars together leaving only a small opening for a pipe cleaner to be inserted. The "flowers" may be part of a grouping in a flower pot for a table decoration or pushed into the ground to create a 4th of July garden. Line a sidewalk with these or place them around a patio area for a party.
Body Decorations
-
Part of the 4th of July celebration is showing a personal pride in the country. Some choose to show this pride by wearing clothing, hats and pins. These items may be purchased commercially, or made fairly simplistically at home. For a super fast pin, wrap an existing pin, such as one from a political rally, with red, white and blue ribbon and hold in place with a touch of hot glue. While a top hat reminiscent of the Uncle Sam character is traditional, any hat is transformed into a 4th of July decoration with a band created from colorful material or craft tissue.
