Bath Toys to Make at Home
Bath time for most young children is a time for fun and play. It may be one of the happiest times of the day. For children who dread bath time, making sure the bath toys are great may help readjust their attitude. Bath toys can be expensive to buy, but children seem to love to play with basic household items such as serving containers, washcloths, spray bottles and more. Making homemade bath toys is economical as well as ecological. Turning a throwaway item into a bath toy saves money and the environment.

Terry Fish
-
To make a terrycloth fish for bath time, use pinking shears to cut a colored washcloth into the shape of a fish. Sew eyes and a mouth, cut from fabric or another washcloth, onto the fish. This bath time fish can be used as a washcloth or just to play with as it swims under water.
Spray Bottle Soap
-
Homes typically have a number of household cleaning products in spray bottles collected under the kitchen sink or stored in a place unreachable by young hands. When these spray bottles become empty, clean them until all of the cleaning agent is removed from the bottle. Fill them with water and mix with some tear-free bath soap or shampoo. The amount of bath soap is dependent on how much you want the bottle to fill up with bubbles during bath time. Let children use the sprayer to get themselves clean or just to spray for fun.

Ping Pong Fun
-
Ping pong balls are fun to play with in water. They bob around and are a bit tricky to catch. One idea for using ping pong balls as a bath toy is to write or draw on each ball, with waterproof markers, shapes, animals, numbers or letters. What you write or draw on the ping pong balls should relate to things of interest to your child. When decorated, throw the ping pong balls into the water. The balls can be played with in a variety of ways: the child catches one and says the shape, number or letter that is written on it, the child finds the ping pong ball with the number, letter or shape you name, or the child sees how fast he can collect all of the balls. The games are limitless, with imagination.
Squeeze Bear
-
Making a squeeze bear toy for bath time is easy if you have honey in a plastic bear-shaped bottle in the refrigerator or pantry. When the honey is gone, wash the inside of the plastic bear until it is no longer sticky. Fill the bear with water and let your child have fun squeezing and squirting.
