Crafts Using Mint Tins
It always seems a waste to throw out the tin after the mints or other candy the tin may have held are gone, especially since mint tins are often the perfect size for a trinket box or a small change purse. Additionally, round tins make good jewelry gift boxes (once the label is hidden, of course). There are many ways to recycle a mint tin if a creative mind employs some ingenuity.

Mint Tin Beauty Kit
-
Simple and inexpensive to construct, a mint tin beauty kit is the perfect size to carry in a purse. To make, remove the paper that lined the tin, and wash and dry the tin thoroughly. Open the tin and lay it out flat. Purchase a can of your favorite shade of spray paint and coat the outside of the tin with the spray paint. Allow it to dry completely before painting the inside; again, allow it to dry. Use hot glue or tacky glue to adhere felt to the inside of the tin, trimming off any excess. Glue a 2-inch mirror to the inside of the lid and you are just about ready to hold lipstick, tweezers or whatever other feminine beauty item you may need in your compact. If the compact is too plain on the outside for your taste, decorate it with rhinestones, sequins or beads secured with hot or tacky glue.
Scrapbooker Mint Tin Mini Purse
-
This craft is for the avid scrapbooker. It makes a perfect little mini compact for a purse or a cute container to carry pertinent items like identification or money when someone is in a club or wants to carry a very small purse. Wash and rinse the tin. Use card stock to cover the front, back and inside of the mint tin; to secure the paper, use scrapbooking double-sided tape dots. Once you have covered the tin's outside and inside, seal its edges with grosgrain ribbon and use excess ribbon to make a loop handle on either side of the tin. It will be necessary to use tacky glue for the ribbon. Once completed, the purse can be opened and whatever items the owner wishes to carry can be placed inside it.

Pocket or Car First Aid Kit
-
Use an empty mint tin to hold a small first aid kit. Wash and dry an empty rectangular mint tin. Spray its front with white spray paint or paint it with acrylic paint. Allow it to dry completely, then flip it over and spray-paint or hand-paint the inside of the tin white, allowing it to dry thoroughly. Using red acrylic paint or two pieces of red vinyl tape, mark a cross on the top of the newly painted tin to identify it as relating to first aid. Fill the decorated tin with antibacterial ointment, gauze packets, bandages and any other items you would like to include.
Mint Tin Trinket Boxes or Jewelry Gift Boxes
-
Mint tins are the perfect size for holding small trinkets or being used as a way to give someone a gift of jewelry in a creative way. It is simple to transform the boring mint tin into a work of art with some paint and other decor. Wash and rinse the tin thoroughly. Cover the outside of the tin with the fabric of your choice, attaching it with hot glue or tacky glue. Once the outside is dry, turn it over and do the same thing on the inside. Once completely dry, personalize the tin in any way you like; it is completely your choice how you decide to use the tin once it has been decorated.
