Tips for Folding Fitted Sheets
Folding fitted sheets can be like wrestling with yards of cotton. The corners don't line up and the sheets don't fold flat. You end up with an uneven, bulky pile of sheet instead of a neat, crisp folded inclusion to your linen closet. Practice and precision in folding can create an impeccable look to your linen closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Standing
-
Stand holding the sheet in front of you, one hand on each corner of one of the shorter edges. The good side of the sheet should be facing you. Turn the corner pockets inside out so each hand is inside a pocket.
Bring your hands together so the two corners meet. Fold the corner pocket on your right hand over your left hand. The two corners will be nestled together with the good side of the sheet facing out.
Reach down and grab the first dangling corner. Pull it up and nestle the pocket over the others on your left hand. Your sheet should have the wrong side facing out right now.
Reach down and grab the last corner. Put the last corner over the other three on your left hand. The right side of the sheet should be showing now, and all four corners are nestled together.
Lay the sheet on a flat surface and smooth. The sheet should be somewhat rectangular, with the folded pockets forming one corner. Fold lengthwise, bringing both longer edges toward the center to hide elastic. Fold into smaller rectangles until the sheet is an appropriate size for your linen closet.
On a Table
-
Lay the sheet on a flat surface with the wrong side facing up. Fold the sheet to bring short side to short side, tucking corners into each other where they meet. The corners should enveloped together so that the pockets face the same direction.
Fold the sheet in half again so that the four corner pockets meet. Tuck the top corners into the bottom corners. All four corner pockets should be facing the same direction.
Fold the sheet bundle in half again, always bringing shorter side to shorter side, until you have a rectangle that is an appropriate size.

Corners
-
Make sure the corners are tucked into each other, the pockets facing the same direction. Corner pockets make folding fitted sheets a challenge. Tucking all four fitted corners together make the sheet as flat as possible.
Smooth, then Fold
-
Be sure to take the time to smooth the sheets with your hand after each fold or use an occasional flick of the wrist if you are using the standing method. Making sure the surface of the sheet is smooth after each fold results in a cleaner finished product. Check the corners frequently to make sure that they line up before making the next fold.
