High school soccer players who dream of earning a scholarship to a major college have quite a few options. The National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA's Division 1 level, considered to be the major college level, has soccer programs that offer scholarships in both men's and women's soccer from coast to coast.

    • NCAA Division 1 men's soccer programs are permitted to offer 9.9 total scholarships according to Active.com. Men's soccer is considered an equivalency sport by NCAA rules and that means that soccer scholarships can be split or divided up among multiple players according to the program or coach's discretion. According to Active.com, most Division 1 teams have rosters that exceed 20 players so scholarships are usually split at least two and sometimes more ways.

    • NCAA Division 1 men's soccer is the highest level of college soccer and considered to be the major college level. According to Active.com, there are 199 programs competing at the NCAA's Division 1 level in men's soccer. That means there are roughly 1,970 men's soccer scholarships available at the major college or Division 1 level. These schools are located from coast to coast across the United States.

    • Division 1 women's soccer rules are a little different because of Title IX rules that require women's sports to have an equal number of scholarships compared to men's sports.
