Make chocolate-covered Jelly Babies as a gift.

Jelly Babies were originally dubbed "Peace Babies" and sold after World War I. Produced by Bassett's in Sheffield, England, in 1919, they grew in popularity until the rationing of sugar just prior to World War II. Production began again in 1953, when the candy was redubbed as they are sold today, Jelly Babies. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Packages of Jelly Babies

    • The simplest gift is to buy a friend or loved one a package of Jelly Babies. Each Jelly Baby has a different color that corresponds to its flavor. Flavors include strawberry, lemon, lime, blackcurrant, orange and raspberry. Around 1989, each flavor was given a corresponding name. "Brilliant" is strawberry, "Bubbles" is lemon, "Baby Bonny" is raspberry, "Boofuls" is lime, "Bigheart" is blackcurrant and "Bumper" is orange. Give a package of Jelly Babies, or buy your friend or family member a whole box.

    Chocolate-Covered Jelly Babies

    • This gift takes a little work, but combines the creamy flavor of milk chocolate with the sweetness of jelly babies. In a double boiler, melt milk chocolate morsels until they are smooth and creamy. Open a package of Jelly Babies. Using tongs, submerge the Jelly Babies in the chocolate until they are completely covered. Set them aside on wax paper until they dry completely. Put your Jelly Babies in a gift box.

    Jelly Babies T-Shirts and Apparel

    • If your friend absolutely loves Jelly Babies, then give the gift of T-shirts or other apparel. A variety of products featuring Jelly Babies are on the market. Things to consider are the size of the T-shirt or other apparel that will fit the recipient. Additional apparel ideas include hats, sweat shirts and hoodies.

    Advertising

    • Because Jelly Babies have been around since 1919, many forms of advertising are available for collectors. Everything from unopened packages to newspaper and magazine advertisements make a great gift for a Jelly Babies collector. Search through auction websites such as eBay and local tag and yard sales to locate such items. Also, because the brand is known primarily in the United Kingdom, contact antique dealers and advertising collectors in that region of the world to locate a Jelly Babies gift.
