Seashell Projects to Make

Nearly any seashell shape can be incorporated into a household project.

Whether you have purchased a bucket of seashells from a craft store, or have leftover shells from a recent vacation, there are a number of projects you can create that utilizes your shells. These projects are simple to do and will make great additions to nearly any room in your house.

  1. Picture Frames and Mirrors

    • Take a picture frame or a mirror with a two-inch or larger frame around it. Generally light, natural-colored woods looks the best with this project. Arrange shells around the outside of your picture frame or mirror, attaching each shell with a hot-glue gun. When you are finished, you will have an eye-catching nautical-themed piece for your home.

    Magnets

    • A single shell, or grouping of shells, can easily be transformed into an attractive magnet for your refrigerator. A hot-glue gun works to glue the shells to one another, or to a plastic or cardboard backing to create your ideal shell cluster. Once you are done, simply attach a magnet to the back of your single shell or group of shells, again using a hot-glue gun. Many magnets designed specifically for refrigerator magnets can be purchased at local craft stores.

    Sea Shell Jars

    • One very simple project you can do with seashells is to simply display the shells in a decorative glass jar or vase. Fill your jar or vase with shells, and sand, and arrange them in a variety of designs. If you are using a jar, you can screw a lid on and tie the top of the jar with an accent ribbon to add color to your creation. These jars and vases are popular choices for decorating kitchens and bathrooms, displaying the shells you found on the beach on your vacation.

    Seashell Night-Light

    • Take a normal night-light that plugs into the wall, and remove the plastic shade that covers the outside of the light. After the shade has been removed, pick a favorite flat seashell, such as a sand dollar, and clean and dry it completely. Apply hot glue or epoxy glue to the night-light clip and gently attach the flat part of the shell to the glue. Once dried you have a new beach-themed night-light to enjoy.
