Iron-On Transfer Ideas

Use an iron-on transfer to punch up a place mat.

If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind gift, or if you want to personalize an item, consider using an iron-on transfer. An iron-on transfer consists of a sheet of paper that is designed to transfer the image printed on it onto a piece of fabric when the heat from an iron is applied to it. Iron-on transfer kits are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased from a craft store.

Customized Tote Bag

Customize a tote bag for yourself or a friend using iron-on transfers. Purchase a plain canvas tote bag in a color that you or the gift recipient will like. Print out a picture of an image that you want to display on the bag onto a piece of iron-on transfer paper; for example, if you are making a bag for a teacher, you could print out the words "Best Teacher," along with a picture of her class.

Sweet Dreams Pillowcases

Make pillowcases for your loved one that will ensure she has sweet dreams of you. Print out a picture of yourself holding a flower onto a sheet of iron-on transfer paper, as well as the phrase, "Sweet Dreams" or "See You in Your Dreams." Iron the image and the phrase onto a plain, yet luxurious, high-thread-count pillowcase and place it on a new, overstuffed pillow.

Personalized Apron

If you enjoy cooking or know someone who likes to cook, make a personalized apron that will let friends and family members know who is in charge in the kitchen. Take a photo of yourself, or the person who you are making the apron for, either wearing a chef hat and oven mitts or cooking a favorite dish. Transfer the image onto an apron, along with the saying, "Kiss the Cook" or "(insert name) Kitchen."

Place Mat Seating Cards

If you're hosting a dinner or any food-related event, make unique place mats that will not only help to decorate your table, but will also tell each person where to sit. Purchase inexpensive place mats from a home supply store, one for each person attending your event. Print a photo of each person who will be in attendance along with each name or simply print out each name, along with decorative images, and iron them onto the place mats. At the end of your affair, guests can take home their place mats as a memento to use in their own homes.
