KitchenAid dishwashers come in stainless-steel, black, biscuit and white finishes. You can also buy models that accept custom panels that make them look like part of your cabinetry. In addition to traditional built-in dishwashers, KitchenAid also offers drawer dishwashers. These consist of two drawers that pull out and allow you to run loads at different times or with different wash settings. KitchenAid also offers a single-drawer design, giving you the flexibility to run small loads.

The least-expensive and moderately priced models in KitchenAid's dishwasher lineup offer four to five wash cycles. These appliances hold 14 to 15 place settings. The most-expensive models provide six wash cycles and hold 16 place settings.

All KitchenAid dishwashers come with nylon racks and stainless-steel tubs. You'll discover fold-down tines in the upper and lower racks of most models. All models include a high-temp scrub and one-hour wash option. KitchenAid dishwashers have decibel measurements ranging from 40 to 52 dBA. A level of 41 to 52 is considered "virtually silent," according to the Lowe's Dishwasher Buying Guide. Most models also include 36 spray jets in the back of the dishwasher, a feature the manufacturer claims can deliver "concentrated cleaning for stubborn messes."

You'll find KitchenAid among the brands evaluated in the annual J.D. Power and Associates Home Appliance Study. The 2010 survey ranked KitchenAid "among the best" brands for ease of use. It earned a "better than most" mark for its performance and reliability, features, styling and feel, and overall customer satisfaction. The brand scored "about average" marks for warranty and price.

The manufacturer's suggested retail prices for KitchenAid drawer dishwashers ranged from $950 to $1,700 in March 2011. Buying a built-in model would cost $650 to $1,650. KitchenAid offers numerous Energy Star-qualified dishwashers. They use about 279 to 288 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
