The Best Self Defense Classes
For many people, the need to defend oneself from physical violence will eventually arise. While numerous self-defense techniques and courses are available to train people in specific skills to confront and hopefully repel a physical threat -- may based on ancient Martial Arts techniques -- some of these are far more effective than others.

Choosing the Best Course
-
Finding a self-defense course that best suits an individual depends on a number of factors, ranging from the person's level of physical fitness and general health to depth of prior experience in martial-arts training. In addition, it's important to be clear about the ultimate goals one wishes to achieve in taking such as course. A woman with no prior martial-arts training, for example, will find many courses that offer rudimentary self-defense techniques that can provide quick, easy methods of fending off an attacker. Conversely, a trained athlete who may have already studied karate may want to investigate other martial-arts techniques to increase adeptness, so deciding which course is best really does lie with the individual.
Four Best Self Defense Moves for Women
-
The website My-Self-Defense-Journey.com recommends the four best defensive moves a woman can make when attacked, all of which will surprise and harm the attacker long enough to allow a woman to make a rapid escape. These are: gouging the attacker's eye with the thumb, hard enough to rupture the eyeball; using cupped hands, slap both of the attacker's ears at the same time as hard as possible, since a cupped hand will create a vacuum that should rupture the eardrum; kick or knee the attacker in the testicles, or, if that's not possible, stomp on his foot and then grab the testicles and squeeze as hard as possible; and strike the attacker's windpipe with your forearm, with the intent of causing his windpipe to collapse.

Top 10 Martial Arts for Self-Defense
-
The website ListVerse.com has put together a list of their top 10 martial arts for self defense, describing each skill and outlining its specific effectiveness as a form of self defense. These are, in descending order: Kick-boxing, Karate, Aikido, Wing Chun, Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, American-style boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the Keysi Fighting Method and Krav Maga, which is chosen as the list's best and most-effective technique. As a tongue-in-cheek extra, the list features a bonus item: firearms, which, while not a self-defense technique per se, nonetheless prove highly effective at disarming an opponent.
Krav Maga
-
Krav Maga also rates highly on Martial-Arts-Info.com, which bills itself as a "resource for all styles of martial arts." Krav Maga is a method of unarmed combat developed by the Israeli military that is becoming increasingly popular throughout the world. Encouraging the use of "dirty moves" that will instantly end the confrontation, Krav Maga combines elements of boxing, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu, and learning Krav Maga does not require traditional martial-arts training exercises. Krav Maga is considered the best self-defense technique by many trainers because its moves have proven to be both practical and effective in a street-fighting situation, and practitioners can earn a high level of skill in the technique within a relatively short period of time.
