Islamic International Undergraduate Scholarships

Found This Helpful

Even though Islam is the second largest religion in the world, many Muslims live in countries where opportunities are as readily available as in the United States. While many Muslims aspire for further education to help themselves and their family, the opportunity may not exist for financial reasons. However, there are a number of international scholarships available, some available specifically for those in developing countries.

Aga Khan Foundation

  • A limited number of scholarships are available through the Aga Khan Foundation, aimed at those students who are in developing countries and with limited financial means. Scholarships are available each year and available on a 50/50 split between grant and loan. Applications are available on the first day of each year and scholarships are awarded to those with strong academic records, financial need, admission to an educational institution and a thought-out career plan.

Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies

  • A scholarship program given to students of developing countries, the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, a branch of Oxford University in England, offers financial assistance to those attending Oxford. Applicants must show that their course of study is relevant to the Muslim world. Scholarships can be renewed based on satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship covers the entire cost of fees associated with attending the university.

Central Bank of Malaysia

  • The Central Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia) established the Fund for Shariah Scholars in Islamic Finance in June 2005 to encourage the advancement of the Islamic Finance Industry. The scholarships are available to those in master's or doctorate studies at post-secondary institutions in the field of Shariah or those part of the Certified Islamic Finance Professional program from the International Centre for Education is Islamic Finance.

Islamic Development Bank

  • Three scholarships are available through the Islamic Development Bank, though only one is available to those living in non-member countries (the United States is not a member country). The Scholarship Programme for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries provides scholarships to those who have academic merit, and a financial need. The M.Sc. Scholarship Programme is for those in least-developed member countries and available to those studying in certain subjects, including science, engineering and technology. The Merit Scholarship Programme for High Technology is for those in three-year Ph.D. programs and six to 12 months of post-doctoral research.
