Brushing your hair is helpful, but applying 100 brush strokes is unnecessary.

Beauty tips change with time, as new research and discoveries in skin and beauty care emerge. However, while some beauty tips from yesteryear make no sense, others are tried-and-true methods that stand the test of time. These tips include remedies for dry skin, large pores and dull, unhealthy hair. Understanding some of these tips will help you discern what tips are worth trying and which will work for you. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Oil for Skin Rejuvenation

    • This old combination works because of its use of vitamins A and E. It is especially useful if you have prematurely aged or lifeless skin, and can also help with psoriasis, acne, eczema and even hemorrhoids. Combine into a container 2 tbsp. of sesame oil, 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 2 tbsp. of avocado oil. Add to this 10 gel caps of 200-IU vitamin E and four caps of vitamin A. These caps should hold 25,000 units each. To do this, puncture the capsules with a needle and squeeze the contents into the container of oil. Close and shake well. Stick it in the fridge when not in use. Apply in the evening before bed after washing the skin. Massage in a few drops of the mix and allow it to soak in overnight.

    Baking Soda Mix for Hair

    • Baking soda will make your hair more manageable and shiny, as well as remove any residue from hair-care products. Sprinkle a quarter-sized amount of baking soda into your palm. Add this to the amount of shampoo you plan to use. Shampoo your hair as normal and rise completely. The efficacy of this treatment will depend on your hair type.

    Cold Water for Pores

    • Cold water splashed on the face allegedly helps you have better skin. This is because the water's frigid temperatures will help shrink pores, thereby reducing the likelihood of clogged pores and subsequent pimples. It will also make any large pores appear smaller. However, this beauty tip can actually irritate skin and cause broken capillaries. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to broken capillaries, don't use this method. Other skin types can use this method, but in general, lukewarm water is better than cold water.

One Hundred Strokes for Shiny Hair

    • It was thought that by applying 100 brush strokes a night you would bring about healthy, shiny hair. It is true that brushing your hair distributes oils on the scalp and throughout the hair shaft. It's also true that, when using the right brush, you give your scalp a massage that stimulates follicles and keeps the hair healthy, says Urduhungama.com. However, applying 100 brush strokes a night is unnecessary and excessive. Instead, use your fingertips to massage the scalp for a few minutes and apply a few brush strokes each night.
