Get creative with Easter baskets this year.

The Easter basket is a hallmark tradition of the Easter holiday. Whether you want to complete the craft for your kids or yourself, there are many ways to make an Easter basket at home. Use recyclable materials, like juice cartons or newspaper, to make an eco- and budget-friendly basket. Once completed, fill the basket with Easter goodies and enjoy your homemade creation.

  1. Milk Carton Bunny Basket

    • Recycle a half-gallon paper milk or juice carton to make an Easter basket that looks like an Easter bunny. Wash and dry the empty carton, and glue the open end shut. Remove one side of the carton with scissors. You can cut a strip of the removed side of the carton to form the handle of the basket or use pipe cleaners. Glue colored construction paper onto the surfaces of the basket to serve as the bunny's fur. Add eyes to the end of the carton where the opening would be, and use construction paper to make ears. Pipe cleaners as whiskers and a cotton ball for the tail add the finishing touches.

    Picket Fence Bunny Basket

    • Make an Easter bunny basket that looks like a white picket fence. You can use a foam circle to form the base of your basket. To make the body of the bunny, find plant label sticks at a garden or craft store or recycle some from your own garden. Paint them white and push the sticks into the edges of the circle. Weave ribbon through the sticks to add color and hold them together. For the handle, attach pipe cleaners to either side of the basket, or secure a wire strand to either side of the basket and wrap colored ribbon around it. To complete the bunny basket, create eyes, a nose, ears and whiskers with felt or construction paper. Glue the eyes, nose and whiskers to the label sticks on one side of the basket to form the bunny's face. Attach the ears to the top of the sticks, above the face.

    Furry Bunny Basket

    • Make a furry Easter basket to match your little bunny.

Turn a simple basket into an Easter bunny centerpiece. Glue cotton balls all over a basket to form the fur of the bunny. Cut ears from white and pink felt, and glue on a pink circle of felt as the nose. Pipe cleaners or drinking straws can be used to form the bunny's whiskers. Glue on googly eyes or eyes cut out of felt and fill your bunny basket with Easter treats.

    Newspaper Bunny Basket

    • A balloon serves as the template for a papier mache Easter basket. Blow up a balloon to the size that you want your basket to be. Rip sheets of newspaper into strips and soak them in diluted craft glue; these strips will be applied over the balloon's bottom half to create the basket. Form the handle over the top of the balloon. Once you have applied multiple layers of newspaper, let the craft dry. When it is dry to the touch and hard, pop the balloon. To decorate the basket, paint it or glue on colorful layers of tissue paper. Don't forget to make a face and the ears out construction or tissue paper.
