Women's professional accounting organizations offer a multitude of scholarships to help women students finance their college educations in accounting. Hundreds of other accounting scholarships are available, especially from colleges and universities, but women will be competing against men for most of these. Scholarships for women for which a specific major is not required also are available.

  1. Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting

    • The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting administers several scholarships for women studying accounting, including their own Laurel's Fund. This scholarship is for women seeking doctoral degrees in the subject. The foundation awards scholarships of up to $5,000, with the winners chosen on the basis of academic achievement, financial need and volunteer activities in the accounting field. The website notes that recipients may be asked to speak at accounting conferences. The organization likes women to submit their applications as hard copy and on a computer disk.

    Association of Women Accountants

    • The Association of Women Accountants offers scholarships through its member chapters. For example, the Seattle chapter awards a scholarship to either a two- or four-year college accounting student; master's candidates may also apply for scholarships. Applicants must be at least second-year students at community or four-year colleges. Students can be either accounting or finance majors.

American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants

    • Member chapters of the American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants also award scholarships. For example, the Metro DC chapter awards a $300 scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in accounting attending college in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area (Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia). The Los Angeles chapter also awards a scholarship to women planning to become certified public accountants. In addition to scholarship money, the recipient is also given a membership in the organization.

    Colleges and Universities

These accounting departments usually have numerous scholarships to award to their majors although women will be competing against men for most of these scholarships.
