Specifications for '82 Collector Corvettes

The 1982 Chevrolet Collector Edition Corvette is a classic sports car from the American automaker and parent company General Motors. The Collector Edition was released to mark the final production year for Chevrolet's third-generation C3 Corvette. It featured exclusive exterior and interior touches and features, and at $22,537 was the most expensive Corvette offered for the 1982 model year. Only 6,759 examples were produced, making the car much sought after by C3 enthusiasts.

  1. Engine

    • For 1982, the Corvette featured GM's venerable L83 350-cu.-in., or 5.7-liter, small-block V-8 engine. While the previous year's motor was carbureted, Chevrolet equipped the 1982 car with a new Crossfire fuel injection system featuring dual throttle bodies, each with its own injector. Compression ratio measured 9.0-to-1. Bore and stroke measured 4.00 inches by 3.48 inches. The engine produced 200-brake horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque. The Collector Edition's engine was identical to that of other Corvette cars.

    Drivetrain and Chassis

    • Like all Corvettes, the 1982 Collector Edition employed a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive architecture. In 1982, a new four-speed automatic transmission was introduced, though there was no manual transmission offered for the model year, out of the ordinary for a sports car. The power-assisted steering used a recirculating ball system. The fully independent suspension system consisted of double wishbones in front, and struts, leaf springs and control arms in the rear. The Collector Edition was equipped with unique aluminum wheels and 255-60-R15 tires. Four-wheel-disc brakes provided stopping power.

    Exterior and Interior

    • Exterior and interior features set the Collector Edition apart from other 1982 models. First and foremost was the two-tone, silver-and-beige paint scheme with contrasting pinstriping, only available with this special edition. The rear hatchback was also unique, a single-piece glass unit that opened in one motion. This feature carried over to the redesigned 1983 C4 Corvette. The car's targa-top roof was made up of two removable glass sections and was tinted beige to match the car's exterior and to provide protection from the sun. In addition to the wheels, special "Collector Edition" badging set this car apart. Inside, the silver-and-beige motif carried over to the two-tone leather seating, door panels and steering wheel.

    Performance

    • According to official General Motors performance estimates, the 1982 Corvette accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds. The quarter-mile came in 15.9 seconds at 86 miles per hour. The sports car was capable of 125 mph. Braking from 70 to zero mph came in 194 feet.
