Christian Counseling at Graduate Schools

At grad school, students might be exposed to things that cause them distress.

Counseling is an important part of the educational process, especially at institutions of higher learning such as grad schools. At grad schools, and at other types of higher education schools, students are exposed to many things they have never been a part of before -- such as living away from home, dealing with relationships and work responsibilities and figuring out who they are as people. Christian counseling helps students get though tough times in their lives -- and do it with Christian attitudes and values.

  1. At Christian Grad Schools

    • Christian grad schools, such as Regents University, are schools already built and based in the Christian tradition of learning. These are schools rooted it Christianity. At these schools, counselors who follow a Christian message are prevalent. Students can speak to counselors about any issues they may be going through or dealing with, and the counselors will attempt to guide them in the right direction and offer them advice that is also rooted in Christianity.

    At Nonreligious Grad Schools

    • Nonreligious grad schools also have Christian counselors. These schools may have a variety of different counselors, and sometimes the Christian counselors are supported or put in place by Christian student associations. The counselors will stay on target as far as a Christian message is concerned, but they will not be the only counseling option for students who feel they might need to talk to someone about their problems.

    Purposes

    • Christian counseling at grad schools -- all types of grad schools -- exists because those in charge of the programs feel it is important for grad school students to be able to talk to someone about problems and issues in their lives and for that someone to be well versed in the model of Christianity that the school or association feels is important.

    Accessing Counseling

    • Accessing counseling can be easy at a Christian grad school, because the general counseling or student services center will have access to Christian counselors. If you attend a school that is not considered a "Christian" school, it can be more difficult to find the particular types of counseling you are looking for. In this case, the Christian student groups or church groups on campus will have the best information about how to obtain the type of counseling you wish to access. If you speak to someone in a Christian church group affiliated with the school or a Christian student group, that person will be able to tell you how to obtain counseling that is based in a Christian faith.
