What Are Poly Silk Orchids?

What Are Poly Silk Orchids? thumbnail
Polyester silk orchids are available in nearly every species.

Orchids are a symbol of love, luxury and exotic beauty. However, they only flourish in mild climates, so many orchid admirers have the choice of paying top dollar to have orchids shipped to them or buying polyester silk orchids, which are a quality imitation. The first polyester silk orchids were made in Japan, but today they are made all over the world. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Species

    • These days, polyester silk orchids are available in just about every species, even those that only grow in other parts of the world, such as the many species exclusive to Papua, New Guinea. The most popular species of orchids are Cinmidium or Phalaenopsis orchids, which only grow in the spring. But there is no need to wait until they are in-season with polyester silk orchids. You can find all the species of polyester silk orchids available throughout the year on the Internet. Dendrobium and Dancing Lady orchids are the most commonly sold polyester silk orchids.

    Maintenance

    • Unlike real orchids, polyester silk orchids are relatively maintenance-free. They do not require water or fertilizer; a few splashes of plant cleaner every few months will suffice. Polyester silk orchids do not wither or need to be replaced. However, they must be kept in a dry location and not exposed to direct sunlight. Moisture or constant sun will fade the colors. Unlike some other artificial flowers, polyester silk orchids must also be arranged upright in order to retain their shape.

    Form

    • Polyester silk orchid flowers are sold in single stems or in silk flower arrangements. Some are designed for display and come already planted in a vase with sprouting stems. However, you can arrange your own stems in a bouquet or plant them in a pot. Stems are made from steel wire that is sturdy enough to stay upright, making a pot of orchids a beautiful addition to any office or desk. Since silk flowers do not aggravate allergies, as some real orchids do, you can display them in a public office or incorporate them in a wedding ceremony without risking any person's health.

    Quality Imitation

    • Polyester silk orchids are hard to distinguish from real orchids, especially if you purchase high quality ones. Dollar stores and other discount retailers still sell cheap imitations that are easy to detect. However, because of the popularity of orchids, you can find high quality polyester silk orchids that look authentic at many craft stores, home design stores and online retailers.
