Construction Building Games

Construction games give the player a resource, whether it is building supplies or currency, and then challenges him to build something. Often the games will have other features which then test the effectiveness of the creation. These vary from game to game but can be anything from seeing how a city you have built copes with a natural disaster, to how a virtual family utilizes the home you have designed for them.

  1. World of Goo

    • This physics-based construction game challenges players to build a structure that stretches from one half of the map to the other. You are supplied with a finite number of "Goo Balls" that can be picked up and placed to form up to two solid links with existing "Goo Balls" that are already part of the structure. Each map has an exit pipe that the construction must be able to reach, so that unused "Goo Balls" can escape the level. Each level has a minimum number of "Goo Balls" that need to escape in order to pass it.

    Sim City 4

    • This is a city building simulator that allows players to build a functioning city, complete with running utilities and an economy. Players establish zones that contain certain functions, such as residential, industrial and commercial areas. They all have to be linked up to utilities such as power stations and running water, as well as having interconnected roads between them to work properly. Another feature allows player to terraform the land to the exact shape they want, adding hills, valleys and other geographical features.

    The Sims 3

    • A major component to this game is constructing the houses for your sims to live in. Thanks to the powerful tools in the game it is possible to build almost any type of house you can imagine. You start by shaping the plot of land to build on, with different geographical features. You then need to establish the foundations before building up the walls and different rooms in your house. Once the layout is to your liking you can furnish it before you move your sim family in.

    Evil Genius

    • Take on the role of an evil mastermind and build a secret island fortress from which to carry out your dastardly deeds. The main building area is a mountain in the centre of the island that the player must initially build an entrance and corridor into. Once this is complete various rooms can be place and branched off from the main walkway, such as training rooms, barracks and a canteen. Once the base is operational, players can construct a series of traps designed to prevent trespassers from discovering the nefarious secrets tucked away in your lair.
