Differences Between IE7 and IE8
IE7 and IE8 refer to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8, respectively. They represent the seventh and eighth iterations of Microsoft's Web browser, which the technology company included with its Windows operating system series. IE7 was released in 2006, and IE8 superseded it in 2009 with several enhancing features.
-
Application
-
When Microsoft released IE7 on October 18, 2006, the company offered the browser as a replacement for Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) on the Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems. It was also included in the aforementioned operating system's immediate successors, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. IE8 was made for all four systems, as well as Vista's immediate successor Windows 7.
Performance
-
When IE7 made its debut, it featured improved text, graphics and video capabilities, as well as a faster start. Also, users can view and manage the performance of the browser's add-ons. To induce more browsing time, IE8 introduced faster start-up and shutdown. A new JavaScript engine was also introduced for speeding up the loading of Web pages.
-
Usability
-
IE7 was designed for efficient Web browsing. With IE8, Microsoft added the ability to bring up a new tab to use multiple Web pages at a time. Also added is One Box for integrating features such as website navigation, starting a search or choosing from suggested sites. With Windows 7, IE8 can use additional features such as Jump Lists for shortcuts to digital content, such as music and video.
Safety and Security
-
IE7 contributes to the protection of the computer from phishing attacks, and it helps correct display problems associated with older sites. IE8 adds protection from attacks arising from malicious software, or malware, as well as malicious code. Also, with IE8, when a tab crashes, it does not affect the other tabs, thus resulting in the entire Web browser collapsing. Rather, it lets the defective tab crash on its own, with the other tabs still retaining normal function. Other safety and security features include deceptive website alerts and regulation of browsing activity.
