Play games to train your brain and keep it fit.

Exercise is not just for the body; you can also exercise your brain by playing games. Our brains may start to slow down as our bodies get older. There's no need, however, to wait until you see signs such as memory loss or inability to concentrate. Games for the brain stimulate areas that enhance memory, improve intelligence and boost the brain's ability to accurately process information.

  1. Math Problem Games

    • Solve as many math problems as possible in 45 seconds in the online "Math Problem Games" found on the Brain Metrix site. The game displays a variety of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication problems suitable for children eight years and older. Playing "Math Problem Games," improves concentration and enhances memory.

    Sudoku

    • Sudoku, invented in 1979, rapidly gained popularity in the U.S. in the early 1990s. It became an international craze and was one of the fastest growing number puzzle games from 1980 to 2005. This game encourages the brain to focus, helps with memorization, challenges players to employ critical thinking and improves logical deduction skills. Sudoku puzzles are available online, in books or on hand-held electronic devices.

    SilverSphere

    • Brain Metrix offers the online game SilverSphere. The purpose of the game is to guide the silver ball to the only blue vortex, which resembles a blue hole, before time runs out. Push a box on each of the gray claws to display the blue vortex. You'll need to push the blue ice cubes over the blue claws, however. In addition, avoid obstacles and hazards, such as the bodies of water and exploding gold balls. Use the up, down, right and left arrow keys to move the silver sphere and other objects. You move to a different level every time you sink a ball in the blue vortex. SilverSphere consists of 25 different levels.

    Memory Games

    • There are several brain training games that can help improve your memory. Play the classic "Memory" game by Milton Bradley. "Memory" caters to children, but adults can still boost memory skills by playing the game. You can also use a deck of cards and match the numbers -- rather than suites -- to enhance your memory skills. In addition, the Internet offers plenty of online memory games where you match numbers, patterns or words, among other items.
