Things to Raise Money for a Fundraiser
Raising money for your organization through a fundraiser takes planning. There are many options when deciding on the best and most economical avenue to take. You can choose to raise funds at a large event, such as a dinner gala, or keep it simple and sell items from your school or place of business at community events.
-
Auction
-
Organizing a gala gives you an opportunity to have an auction. Several months before the event, call retailers and supporters of your organization to donate items, theme baskets, vacations or anything else of value on which an attendee can bid. You may hold a fast and exciting live auction with an auctioneer who motivates the audience to bid higher, or a low-key silent auction where attendees write their bids on a sheet of paper, and the highest amount wins when the auction closes.
Green Fundraising
-
If your organization is concerned about the environment, have a "green" fund raiser. Advertise in the community about a day when your organization will be collecting recyclables at a certain location. The money raised from recycling these items can be donated to your cause. In addition, have supporters sign up to bring garage sale items to your parking lot and set up a sale, with all proceeds going to your organization.
-
The Reverse Raffle
-
Hold an after-work wine and cheese event and offer a reverse raffle. This fund raiser involves handing out free raffle tickets to each attendee when they arrive. They will be told that raffle "winners" will be subjected to a "prize" that's something they may not want, such as a pet mouse, or being required to participate in an embarrassing activity. If attendees don't want to be in the drawing, you can offer to take the ticket back -- if they pay you a certain amount, such as $10 each.
Promotional Products
-
Promotional products are items that have your organization's name, contact information and slogan imprinted on them. These can be sold to raise funds. For example, at youth, school or college football events, you can sell foam fingers, rally towels and thunder sticks. If yours is a non-profit organization, offer etched glass paper weights for those who donate a certain amount of money. Your school or non-profit can sell silicone wristbands embossed with your organization's name or slogan. Selling customized 12-month calendars with a personalized picture for each month also serves as a daily reminder of your organization and is a visual reminder to support it.
