The Best Fall Centerpieces for Weddings

Fall foliage offers a vast canvas of colors for your wedding palette.

If you choose to have your wedding in fall you are able to capitalize on the rich autumn colors in your decorations, especially in your centerpieces. The typical colors of fall foliage -- reds, golds, yellows and oranges -- lend themselves well to vibrant and elegant wedding color palettes. While these colors work well with traditional flower arrangements, they also can work in unconventional and modern centerpiece ideas.

  1. Water Arrangement

    • Fill the bottom of a wide, clear glass bowl with stones and gemstones in reds, oranges and yellows and then fill the bowl with water. Glue a few of the stones to the underside of plastic foliage leaves, which can be found at a craft store. Place the leaves in the water as well. The stones will keep them from floating to the top. Choose some floating candles in the same colors as the stones, light them, and float them on the surface of the water as a finishing touch to the arrangement.

    Harvest Centerpiece

    • Fill a cornucopia with apples and gourds, fruits and vegetables typical of the fall season. Surround the cornucopia with small tea light candles in oranges, reds and yellows to cast a soft glow that highlights the centerpiece. In lieu of the cornucopia, you could also fill a bowl with the apples and gourds. Choose a wooden bowl or a bowl in a fall foliage color to help tie together the color palette and give the centerpiece a rustic feel.

    Pumpkin

    • For a wedding around Halloween, put an elegant and eye-catching spin on the silly and festive carvings of pumpkins typical around the holiday. In lieu of carving a jack-o'-lantern face or the classic Halloween imagery of witches, ghosts and goblins, choose carvings that are romantic in nature. For example, carve an outline of wedding bells on a pumpkin, the silhouette of a wedding dress, or interlocking hearts. Place a candle inside the pumpkin to illuminate the carving.

    Flowers

    • Choose flowers that replicate the colors of the fall leaves. Roses can be dyed virtually any color, including the orange and yellow typical of fall, which makes them suitable to a fall arrangement. Incorporate orange tiger lilies, yellow tulips, and add some red berries into the mix. Choose a rustic vase for the arrangement to complement the color scheme, such as a brown or wooden vase, which will make the colors pop.
