Beacon Activity Center

The Beacon Activity Center offers numerous senior activities each month. A calendar is printed every other month to let seniors know which activities will take place and when. A monthly birthday lunch is offered for seniors with birthdays in that month. Activities include massages, dances and yoga sessions. Seniors can also learn crafts, such as ceramics, quilting, crocheting and knitting. Costs vary by activity.
Lighthouse Activity Center

The Lighthouse Activity Center offers a calendar full of activities and events for seniors to enjoy with their peers. Exercise classes, including yoga, Zumba and water exercise, are offered at this location. Quilting classes, wood carving and ceramics teach seniors new craft skills or give them the opportunity to hone existing skills. Computer game activities are also offered. Health-related activities include blood pressure checks and nutritional bingo.

Senior Trips

Seniors who enjoy getting out into the city can take advantage of the senior trips arranged through the Beacon and Lighthouse Activity Centers. Bowling, movies and shopping excursions are scheduled several times each month. The cost for these outings varies. For instance, bowling costs $1 and a movie costs $6. Seniors are responsible for buying their own lunch; each trip includes a stop at a restaurant. Trips to destinations in nearby cities are sometimes offered, such the Seattle Aquarium.
Tacoma Garden Club

The Tacoma Garden Club, which was begun in 1925, offers events for everyone who enjoys gardening, including seniors, . The club sponsors events throughout the year, including flower shows, lectures and fundraisers. Several garden organizations are supported by this club, including Cascade Land Conservatory, Metro Parks Tacoma and Washington Native Plant Society. Activities through these organizations give seniors the opportunity to improve their gardening skills. They can also help to preserve the environment for generations to come.
