Specs for the Gateway Solo 9550
The Gateway Solo 9550 notebook computer arrived in stores in 2002 marketed toward business users. Equipped with either an Intel Celeron or Pentium III processor operating at 1.13 GHz, the computer was considered a high-end model at the time of its introduction. The computer has been out of production for several years, but spare parts are still available.

Processor, Chipset and Memory

The Solo 9550 notebook was available with either an Intel Pentium III M or an Intel Celeron processor, attaching to an Intel Socket 478 motherboard. The Pentium III version included a 512 KB Level 2 cache, and the Celeron model used a 256 KB cache. The motherboard chipset is the Intel 830MP with a 133 MHz front side bus. The system board has two 144-pin SO-DIMM slots, each of which can handle up to 256 MB of PC-133 SDRAM memory. A 2.5-inch IDE hard drive provides storage and was available in a variety of capacities.
Audio and Video

The Solo 9550 contains two speakers built into the front palm rest. The ESS ES-1988 controls the internal sound, and can produce 5.1 channel Dolby Digital output. The NVIDIA Geforce 2 GO video card provides video support with 32 MB of dedicated video memory. The 9550 was available with either a 15.7-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels or a 15.0-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels.

The computer has two USB version 1.1 connectors, one RJ-45 LAN connector, one RJ-11 phone line connector, one S/PDIF digital audio out port, one audio out and one microphone in jack, one PS/2 connector, one parallel port connector, one VGA external monitor connector, one serial port and a TV-out port. The right side of the notebook features a user-removable 5.25-inch bay for a CD/DVD drive and the left side has a 3.5-inch bay for a floppy drive, additional hard drive or an additional battery. An optional docking station increased the number of USB, audio and video ports.

The 9550 includes an internal V.92 56 K data/fax modem with an RJ-11 jack on the notebook's right side. An internal IEEE 802.3, 10/100 BASE-TX Ethernet interface provides network support via the RJ-45 jack on the computer's left side. Wireless networking is provided by the IEEE 802.11b network card installed in the Mini-PCI expansion slot, and utilizes an internal Wi-Fi antenna. The standard battery is a four-cell lithium-ion operating at 24 watts. A long-life, eight-cell battery operating at 53 watts was offered as an option.
