Wear era-inspired clothes when hosting an eighties theme party

The 1980s were a colorful, indulgent time. Hair was big and Pac Man was all the rage. The imagery of the era makes for a festive party theme. Put on your best Madonna or Don Johnson-inspired threads and get radical with your friends on the dance floor. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Boom Boxes and Music Videos

    • Music was a big part of the culture of the 1980s. Enjoy the music of the era on 1980s-style boom boxes. If you don't have access to cassette tapes of 1980s music, just use the boom boxes as props and play music from an MP3 player. MTV was born in the 1980s and everyone was talking about this new idea of music videos. Get vintage music videos from the library and play them during your party on analog televisions, circa 1980s.

    Eighties Decorations

    • The eighties is home to some great television and movie entertainment. Help guests get in the 1980s mood by hanging pictures of stars of the era. Do an Internet images search for photos of music stars such as Michael Jackson, stills from movies such as Back to the Future or Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and images from popular television programs such as The Cosby Show. Put some trivia and fun facts on index cards and tape them under the pictures on the wall. Atari games can still be found at garage sales and thrift stores and make "radical" decorations -- and activities if they are still in working order.

    Eighties Inspired Favors

    • Neon colored socks, bangle bracelets or banana clips make appropriate 1980s-themed favors for the ladies in the party. Leg warmers will also thrill the female party guests. The guys will look cool in black Wayfarer-style sunglasses favors. Rubik's Cubes or Pac Man favors will also support the theme. For a sweet treat, give guests Pop Rocks.

    Cassette Tape Invitations

    • Go retro with your invitation style. Find cassette tapes at garage sales or even in the storage areas of your house. Create a label on the tape to serve as the invitation. If you have the ability to record on the cassettes, record a message inviting the recipient. Make an insert for the case that reveals party information such as date and time.
