Show Grandpa all the fun you can have together using rubber stamps.

Keep Grandpa busy with easy but engaging rubber stamp crafts. Grandpa can enjoy making rubber stamp crafts on his own or work on them together with his grandchildren. Rubber stamp crafts are entertaining and simple for seniors to complete using various stamp patterns and ink bases. Show your grandpa all the rubber stamp crafts he can create, including cards, scrapbook pages, T-shirts and notebook decorations.

  1. Cards

    • Show your grandpa how he can use rubber stamps to create holiday or celebration cards. Create holiday cards to send out to family and friends using Christmas tree and snowflake stamps. Create a dotted background or stripe border using rubber stamps with dots and stripes. Rubber stamps can be used to make customized cards for any occasion, including birthday, congratulations and thank you cards.

    Scrapbook Pages

    • Grandpa may take a trip down memory lane using rubber stamps for a scrapbook or memory book. Go through old pictures to use for the scrapbook. Create themed pages on scrapbook paper. Grandpa may choose to organize his scrapbook by year, season or celebration. For example, a celebration-themed scrapbook may include a page devoted to his high school or college graduation where he can stamp a diploma or graduation cap, a wedding page where he may stamp a bouquet or cake, and a "firstborn" page where he can stamp a baby bottle stamp.

    T-Shirt

    • Show Grandpa how easy it is to make a T-shirt with rubber stamps. Make sure to use permanent ink and to test the stamp on an old T-shirt before using it on the one you are choosing to decorate. Cover a work surface with newspaper and lay out the T-shirt to be decorated, front side up. Smooth freezer paper inside the T-shirt, with the shiny side facing up, so that it will be under the area Grandpa will be stamping. Have Grandpa use his desired stamps on the T-shirt. If he would like to color in the stamped outlines with permanent marker, treat the fabric with anti-fusant once the stamps are dry. Grandpa can then color in his designs. Let the color dry for 24 hours. Permanent stamping ink will need to be set with an iron according to manufacturer directions.

    Spiral Notebook

    • Encourage Grandpa to stamp the cover of a spiral notebook he can use to jot down his thoughts or sketch drawings, or give to a loved one. Use two 8-1/2-inch by 11-inch sheets of heavy cardboard, like illustration or mat board, and the rubber stamps and inks of his choice. Use dye or pigment ink to color the surface of the board and allow it to dry. Have Grandpa stamp patterns or shapes in the design he desires on the cardboard. Once the cover is dry, stack the cover, 8-1/2-by-11-inch paper and the second cardboard piece for the back of the notebook. Have the notebook spiral-bound at your local copy center.
