The Cheapest Wedding Invitations

Even wedding invitations printed on a home computer can look elegant.

Weddings are expensive and often leave couples seeking ways to cut costs. Wedding invitations can be made cheaply without looking cheap. Consider making them on a home computer using a specialty ink or creating scented homemade paper to print them on. When seeking inexpensive invitations, consider the wedding theme and colors; perhaps a shimmering, hand-cut, paper snowflake would make an ideal backdrop for a winter-themed wedding invitation.

  1. Bookmarks

    • Bookmarks are functional and double as wedding favors. Create the bookmarks using a computer's desktop-publishing software; use elegant fonts when typing the event's details, add a decorative border and print the invitation on white card stock. Alternatively, print bookmarks without borders on decorative card stock or textured paper. Send the bookmarks to a print shop for lamination. Punch a hole on each bookmark and add a coordinating tassel or organza ribbon.

    Photo Card

    • Photo-card wedding invitations add a fun and personal touch. Make them from home or have them professionally printed at a design studio. Choose a photo in which the couple appears happy; it needn't be a professional photo as long as it's clear. Place the ceremony details on one side of the card and the photo on the other side.

    Scroll

    • Scroll wedding invitations look elegant and are easy to make. Print the wedding invitation on decorative scrapbook paper. Paint two wooden dowels gold or silver. Use multi-purpose craft glue to affix the top of the paper to one dowel and the bottom of the paper to the other dowel. When the glue dries, roll the paper up and secure the scroll with a matching organza bow.

    Ribbon and Vellum Card

    • Sometimes, simplicity is best. Vellum is a transparent or semi-transparent craft paper varying in thickness. It is often used as an overlay in formal invitations. Ribbon and vellum can turn simple card stock into an elegant, expensive-looking wedding invitation. Print a bi-fold wedding invitation on your home computer using black or gray ink and calligraphy font. Place a thin sheet of light-colored vellum inside the invitation, close the card and secure with a simple silk bow.
