Activities on Five Senses for Kindergarten
Teach your class about the five senses using interactive games. Your kindergarten class will enjoy learning about the five senses by experiencing them. Introduce each sense on its own or as a group. Then introduce students to how their bodies work to help them taste, touch, see, hear and smell.

Taste Stations
-
Set up a few stations around your classroom and assign a different taste to the station such as sweet, salty or savory. For each table, set up a few containers with food items the students can sample. Use opaque containers with lids so the class can't see what's inside. Divide the class into small groups of five or six and have students tell you what they think the items are. Before the groups move to the next section, explain how their body is able to taste food.
Learn a New Language
-
Teach your kindergarten class about Braille and sign language. Contact your school library or local library to obtain books with Braille. Give each student a turn to feel the raised symbols that stand for letters. This will utilize their sense of touch. Blindfold students so they know what it feels like for someone without sight. Also, teach students how to sign the alphabet. Encourage them not to sing the alphabet song as they sign.

Sound Machine
-
Divide your class into small groups. Give each student two paper plates. Also, give each group a bowl of items such as pennies, paper clips or beans. Have your students place a handful of the items in the center of one of the plates. Cover with the other plate and staple the edges. Have the students shake their noise-makers as one big class, and then single out each group to shake their noise-makers. Ask students which items are softest or loudest. Feel free to have students color and decorate the outside of the plates before the items are handed out.
What's that Smell?
-
Fill small paper bags with popcorn, peppermints, chocolates and other edible items that produce smells you know your class will recognize. Make two of each scent and fold the bag closed. Make enough for different groups to participate at one time. In each group, place one bag of each scent in a row. Hand out bags with matching scents to group members. Tell students to unfold their bags and you can unfold the row of bags. Have the students match the scent in their bag to the scents in the row. When you are finished with the game, explain how people can smell.
