The skin on your face needs pampering more than the skin on the body. As it's prone to issues such as acne and wrinkles, treat it with care if you want healthy, even skin. Cleansing the skin daily is necessary, whether you wear makeup or not. Depending on your skin type, cleansing once a day or twice a day are both options. By following some skincare tips on cleansing, you can develop a routine that's right for you and your skin. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Makeup Remover

    • If you wear makeup, it's important to use makeup remover as well as cleanser in the evening. Sometimes cleansers can double as makeup remover, but most do not. The makeup remover is necessary to dissolve mascara and thoroughly remove foundation makeup. After applying the makeup remover and gently washing it off with warm water and a washcloth, apply a gentle cleanser to the skin. Put it just on the facial skin, not the eyes. Rinse it off with cold water as well.

    Exfoliating Cleanser

    • An exfoliating cleanser is beneficial for all skin types. It's particularly important to use if you have oily and acne-prone skin. It removes oils and dead skin cells that can clog pores and lead to acne breakouts. Choose gentle exfoliating cleanser that contain moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba beads. Only use it once per week and wash it off gently with a washcloth and warm water. Using an exfoliating scrub too often can actually make the skin worse.

    Application

    • Apply the cleanser gingerly to the face and even more so around the eyes. When applying it, massage the cleanser in a circular motion giving your face a mini-massage. Wash it off with cool water. When using it around the eyes, add it gently using your ring finger. Dab the ring finger on the eyelids with a very light touch. Never pull the skin.

    Oil Cleansing

    • Try cleansing your skin with oil. This may sound counter-intuitive for people with oily skin. But it can balance out oily skin. There are myriad oils to use, such as sunflower seed oil and olive oil. Castor oil should be a part of the oil cleansing. Blend Castor oil with the oil of your choice. For someone with normal, balanced skin, mix together 80 percent sunflower seed oil with 30 percent Castor oil. For dry skin, use 90 percent olive oil and 10 percent Castor oil. You can treat oily skin with 30 percent Castor oil and 70 percent sunflower seed oil. Apply the oil just as you would any other cleanser. Wash off thoroughly. To make sure that you remove the residue, follow with a standard cleanser.
