Ideas for Christian Devotionals
While Christian devotionals shouldn't be a substitute for personal Bible study, devotionals can supplement Bible study and encourage Christians in their relationship with Christ. When writing a Christian devotional, center it around a theme so readers can identify more with the message you want to send in your work.
-
Stories of Triumph Over Adversity
-
Because adversity will affect every Christian, write a devotional that includes real-life stories from people whose faith in Christ enabled them to endure tough times and still have hope. Collect stories from church members, pastors, friends, neighbors and relatives. End each story with a Bible passage that relates to the theme.
Christian Parenting
-
If you are a parent, write a devotional on what the Bible has to say about raising children, and include your own experiences as well as stories from other Christian parents you know. Because parenting can be a difficult experience, include some advice on what to pray about regarding child rearing and having God's wisdom during this journey.
-
Encouragement for Pastors
-
Another idea is to write a devotional book that gives encouragement to pastors. Include relevant topics such as pastors and their families, the stresses of ministry, seeking God's wisdom and finding new ways to serve the community through the church. Research Bible verses before writing the devotionals and choose the ones that pertain to the focus of your devotional.
Devotionals for Teens
-
If you want to help teens understand biblical truths and how they can live them out in everyday life, write a devotional that offers practical but biblically sound advice to teens who are struggling with peer pressure, guilt over sins they have committed, conflicts with their parents and knowing God's will for their lives.
