Dressing up as historical figures is a choice theme for a project.

Dressing up for a school project can be fun for kids. It gives them an opportunity to wear a type of costume and personalize what they are learning in school. Depending on the subject matter, there are a number of themes to choose from that will make for an educational and entertaining day at school for everyone.

  1. History Themes

    • If the school project is on the subject of history, there are plenty of dress-up themes. For example, if the subject is the American Revolution, students could dress up as George Washington, John Adams, Betsy Ross or Paul Revere. If the students are studying the discovery of America, they could dress as Christopher Columbus, pilgrims and Native Americans. If the project is American presidents, they could each choose a president and a first lady to dress as. World history is another theme that would lend itself to dressing up as various characters for a project.

    Current Events

    • If the project is on current events and the latest trends, the students could dress as important or influential figures. This might include politicians, pop stars and actors and actresses. The students could choose a topical person to write about, how they've influenced others and the effect they've had on the world and our culture.

    Animals

    • If the project has to do with animals or animal habitats and environments, have the students dress up as their favorite animal or one that they are learning about. It could be based on endangered animals, prehistoric animals or other animal subject matter. There is a wide variety of dress-up themes when it comes to animals because you can choose a specified area for the project--for example, animals that live in the rain forest.

    People Who Help

    • A theme for another project could be dressing up as those in the community who help others. The students could dress as firefighters, doctors, police officers and nurses. It would be educational for the students to know exactly what those jobs entail and how they affect the community. A project like this could potentially lead a student down a career path if they find this theme to be one they enjoy.
