Kindergarten Homeschool Activities for April
Incorporate fun activities during the month of April into your homeschool curriculum to keep kindergarten students excited about learning. Activities with a spring theme such as flowers, rain, Easter and new life are all appropriate for the month of April. Tailor the activities to meet the children's level of development and age, while teaching them new facts about this time of year.

Tissue Paper Flowers
-
Discuss with children the meaning of spring and teach them about the changes that happen outdoors during this season. Explain that during the month of April, rain storms provide water for flowers, grass and other plants to grow. Give each child three pieces of brightly colored tissue paper measuring 8 inches by 10 inches. Instruct the children to create 1-inch folds lengthwise in the papers to form pleats. Help each child wrap one end of a pipe cleaner around the center of the pleated papers and twist it to form the stem. Show the children how to spread apart the ends of the tissue paper and crinkle it to make a ball-shaped flower. Stick the stems of the flowers in a pot full of rocks or soil and display in a window.
Easter Bunnies
-
Use this activity to celebrate Easter with your kindergarten students during the month of April. Help the children draw three large hearts of the same size and one smaller heart on colored construction paper, and cut them out. Instruct the children to set one heart, with the point facing up, on their table or desk. Have them glue the pointy end of the second heart to the bottom back side of the first heart. Help them glue the pointy end of the third heart over the pointy end of the first heart. The three hearts should now be glued together in a vertical row. Have the children attach the small heart to the right side of the large bottom heart to form a tail. Have the children draw a bunny face on the center heart and draw two ovals on the top heart to form ears.

Pinecone Bird Feeder
-
Use this activity to celebrate spring and prepare for returning wildlife in your homeschool classroom. Discuss with children the habits of animals during winter months. Explain that some animals, such as bears, hibernate or go to sleep during winter and others, such as birds, migrate or travel to warmer spots. Tell the children that the birds return when spring arrives. Have the children go outdoors and gather pinecones. Instruct the children to tie a piece of string to the top of each cone, roll it in peanut butter and then birdseed. Help the children hang their bird feeders outside on tree branches. Each week have the children check on their feeders to see if the birds are eating the seed.
Homemade Umbrellas
-
Teach homeschooled kindergarten children the basics of the water cycle. Explain the steps of the process, which are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. Briefly define each step and discuss with the children why rainfall is important. Give each child a cutout of an umbrella and provide crayons, markers, glitter, beads, buttons and glue. Instruct the children to decorate their rainy-day umbrellas however they wish. Once the umbrellas are finished, hang them in a window for display.
