The ideas of an Internet account executive impact whether you respond to an online ad.

Over the past few decades, the Internet has transformed the face of business operations. Companies are using the Internet to market their products online to a global market. In the heart of this work are Internet account executives. These workers are directly responsible for how well a company survives online, which in some cases can determine whether a company thrives or folds.

  1. General Job Description

    • In general, Internet account executives are sales representatives. Their job is to assist in developing and executing different advertising strategies on various websites. Their overall goal always is to see that the company for which they work meets a particular sales goal, such as 1,000 products sold a month or $10,000 a month in revenue gained.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Depending on the company for which an Internet account executive works, an Internet account executive solicits new accounts with different websites. He negotiates the terms of those accounts, and when necessary, performs site maintenance like changing addresses or stopping payments. He also drafts advertising proposals and pitches advertising ideas. Because the overall goal of an Internet account executive is to meet a sales quota, he also spends time researching the market to determine customer needs and how to overcome various current marketing challenges.

Through advertising campaigns, the executive sells via the Internet whatever services or products the company has. He must document all of his work so the company can plan financially and track operations. Internet account executives also stay abreast of new digital technologies like mobile devices, as these technologies relate to Internet access. Like other sales executives, Internet account executives work on the company's press and media kits, as well.

    Liaison Duties

    • Internet account executives are sales representatives, but they also are computer-based specialists. For this reason, Internet account executives sometimes act as liaisons between the sales and IT departments of a given company, coordinating the activities of both teams to get a website account up and running for sales purposes. In some cases, employers even may have members of both teams report to the Internet account executive for particular projects. Internet account executives should be prepared for supervisory responsibilities.

    Necessary Skills and Experience

    • Internet account executives are, first and foremost, salespeople. For this reason, to complete their job responsibilities, they usually need a degree related to marketing or business. However, because their work is based on the Internet, they also need to be familiar with the technologies, methods and languages of computers. A background in computer science or information technology is recommended. Internet account executives also should have strong speaking and writing skills, as they have to pitch their ideas, write down their operations and rely on the written word and images to sell products. Internet account executives should have at least one to five years of marketing, business or computer-related experience prior to applying for open positions.
