The crises facing wildlife around the world are of concern to many people. There is a wealth of topics to choose from when giving a speech on the topic, and you can adapt any of them to appeal to different groups. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is a useful source for information about endangered species in all parts of the globe. Alternatively, depending on where you live, you could talk about local wildlife species.

1 Tigers

In the last 100 years, several sub-species of tigers have become extinct. These include the tigers of Java and South China. According to WWF, the tiger population worldwide has decreased by 93 percent, and the threat to the remaining population is increasing. As of 2011, only some 3,200 tigers survive in the wild. In response to this, the WWF recently launched the Tigers Alive Initiative. The WWF website has plenty of information about the threats to tigers, solutions to the problem and information about why tigers are so important to their habitats. All of this information provides the basis of a highly informative and engaging speech.

2 Giant Panda

Pandas are universally loved, and a talk about them should appeal to younger audiences. The panda has a special significance for the WWF, as the organization uses a panda for its logo. Like the tiger, the giant panda is among the most endangered wildlife species, and its future is increasingly threatened by China´s growing industrialization and the fact that poaching persists. The WWF can supply speakers with information about the giant panda habitat, conservation projects in China and maps to visually support to your talk.

3 Wildlife Trade

Wildlife trade is an emotive topic. Wildlife shows on television and campaigns by leading charities have made many of us aware of the continuing threat to animals from poachers who kill elephants for ivory and rhinos for their horns, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine. TRAFFIC monitors wildlife trade across the world and is influential in stopping illegal trade and other wildlife crime. The organization has inspiring videos and information to help you put together a speech about this topic.

4 Wildlife Conservation

A talk about conservation provides an opportunity to look at situations around the world and the work done by conservationists. The talk could then touch on the topic of careers in conservation, the qualifications required and the variety of work opportunities. One of the advantages of this topic is that you can talk about global or local conservation issues.
