MSN Messaging Protocols
Like other popular messaging applications introduced by AOL and Yahoo, the MSN Messenger allows you to chat from your keyboard with short typed messages. You can access this messenger by anyone with an MSN e-mail address, and you can install the system on your desktop in just minutes. You can set up the system and use with no experience, and you will be on your way to chatting with friends and family on the web.

Installation
-
Before you start using the MSN Messenger, install it onto your computer. After downloading the program from MSN, the computer will prompt you to open and set up the system. In the pop-up installation boxes, you will first have to agree to the terms of use, then use the "Next" button to navigate through the default installation options. Click "Install" when prompted to do so. Click "Next" after the system has installed and then click "Finish" to complete the process and launch the messenger on your desktop.
Sign In Screen
-
The first screen that you will meet is the application's sign-in screen. From here, you will be able to create a password and a user name, as well as set up your sign in options. Enter your MSN e-mail address into the user name field, then select your desired password to protect your system. Next, check the boxes underneath the password field that you would like to apply to your account. These include options that will launch your messenger everytime you turn your computer on, or leave you auto signed on every time you open the messenger.

Set Up
-
After entering your password, user name and options, you will be signed in and met with your initial setup screen. The first screen will show you a list of your contacts. The contacts will include all of the people who are connected to you through your MSN e-mail address, and all of those equipped with messenger capabilities. If you have no contacts with MSN messenger, click the "Contacts" tab and enter the name of someone who does, in order to begin chatting. Select "Add a Contact" and enter an e-mail address. They will then receive a notification e-mail.
Chatting
-
Once you have a contact added with MSN messenger capabilities, you can begin chatting. Start this by clicking on an active contact and select "Invite." On the messenger interface, you can then click tabs to add an image or a video. You can engage a video chat, play a game, add an emoticon smiley face or simply type a text message onto the messenger. After you click "Send," the message will on the way to the other person, who will then be able to respond to you.
