What Are Child Friendly Cars?

Once you have kids, picking out a vehicle can be an even more complicated task than it normally would be. A family vehicle needs to have room for the whole family and possess the features parents want for both themselves and their children. While some consider only large vehicles "family" vehicles, some sedans and smaller SUVs that work well for those with children.

  1. Dodge Grand Caravan

    • In 2009, Forbes magazine pointed out the child-friendly seats of the Dodge Grand Caravan. These seats can swivel around and they can fold to make room for extra cargo. The Grand Caravan comes in five different trim levels that all have this feature. Among them are the Cargo Van, SE, Hero, SXT and Crew. The Grand Caravan retails for between $21,800 and $28,360. Safety features such as driver, passenger and side curtain airbags are also all included.

    Toyota Avalon

    • Consumer Reports lists the Toyota Avalon as the most family friendly large sedan on the market for 2009. The Avalon comes in two different trim levels, the Base and the Limited. The Avalon carries a retail price between $32,595 and $35,835. Both trim levels feature a 3.5 liter V6 engine with 268 hp at 6,200 rpm. The car has room for up to five people. The power seats are adjustable and child safety locks are included.

    Subaru Outback

    • Rated as one of the most child friendly cars by Consumer Reports in 2009, the Outback comes in five different trim levels. These include the 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 3.6R, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Premium. The Outback retails for between $23,195 and $29,195. To clear out room, the vehicle features second row folding seats. The 2.5i Limited model also features optional DVD players for kids to watch. Driver, front side, passenger and side curtain airbags are all included for safety.

    Honda Accord

    • The Honda Accord is a long-running sedan rated as the best family sedan by Consumer Reports for 2008. The 2011 version of the accord retails for between $21,180 and $23,580. The Accord has room for two passengers in the front seat and three in the back seat. All of the trim levels have second row folding seats and child safety locks. A first aid kit is included as an optional feature and driver, passenger, front side and side curtain airbags are all standard.
