Facts About the Hybrid Tea Rose Pascali

The stunning white, large-petaled Pascali tea rose -- also known as the Blanche Pasca, Rose Pascali or Rosa Lenip -- enjoys a storied reputation among enthusiasts, a lineage backed by a history of prestigious awards. Pascali gets its light coloration from its parents, the Queen Elizabeth and White Butterfly roses. This low-maintenance deciduous flower serves home gardens as a bright border or as the centerpiece of flower beds. Country and city gardeners alike can grow Pascali roses with a little care. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. History

    • This hybrid rose finds its origins in Lens, Belgium. First bred in 1963, the Pascali won the Royal National Rose Society Certificate of Merit and the Hague Gold Medal that same year. In 1967, the rose took home the Portland Gold Medal. Two years later, it was selected as a winner by the All-American Rose Selections. The World Federation of Rose Societies inducted the Pascali into its Hall of Fame in 1991.

    Identification

    • Though some Pascali hybrids feature pure white coloration, others have near white or blended hues. In most cases, the blossom sports a cream-colored center and pure white exterior petals. The hybrid Pascali is a modern tea rose, meaning it sports a very large flower with classical rose petal formation. Its 3- to 4-inch blossom has between 30 and 35 petals, supported on a straight dark green stem with glossy textured leaves. Like other tea roses, this flower has a light and subtle tea-like fragrance.

    Growth Habits

    • Roas Pascali takes the form of an upright bushy shrub, reaching heights and spreads of up to about 3.5 to 4 feet. This hybrid tea rose take between two and five years to reach maturity. At maturity, it blossoms double-petaled flowers and has a recurrent bloom cycle. The foliage of the Pascali retains its deep green coloration even in the autumn months. The plant grows facing any aspect -- north, south, east or west -- and flourishes in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 10. Blanche Pasca propagates via budding or hardwood cuttings.

    Ideal Environment and Care

    • Hybrid Pascalis thrive in full sun, though they tolerate some shade. This hardy flower prefers chalky, clay, loamy or sandy soils and isn't too picky about pH levels. The Pascali hybrid tea rose generally requires little maintenance from green thumbs, though it susceptible to pests such as aphids, caterpillars, red spider mites and leafhoppers. Diseases including black spot, powdery mildew and rose rust may affect the Pascali rose.
