Catholic School Grants for Students

There are parents who believe that their child's academic education should be blended with religious studies. For those parents, private religious schools, such as Catholic schools, are necessary alternatives to their neighborhood public school. Yet affording the tuition for a private Catholic school education can be difficult for some families. Although there are not many grant opportunities specifically for Catholic school students, funds are available to help with a private school education, without regard to the school's affiliation.

  1. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Young Scholars Program

    • The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Young Scholars Program is built on the premise that by providing exceptional students with financial resources and guidance, they will be able to excel to their full potential. Application for the program is made when the student is in the seventh grade, with program entrance in eighth grade and continuing throughout high school. Funds are provided for private school if it is felt that the options for public school could not meet the student's potential.

    Children's Scholarship Fund

    • The Children's Scholarship Fund offers assistance for tuition to students in K-8. Generally, scholarships are awarded to students either entering kindergarten in a private school or who are transferring from a public to private school. Families receive tuition assistance based upon income and size. Awards are first-come, first-served, with the average award around $1,500.

    Regional Scholarship and Voucher Programs

    • Tuition assistance is also available on a regional basis. For instance, the Lehigh Valley Children's Educational Opportunity Fund, located in Pennsylvania and part of CEO America, provides scholarships for students to be able to attend a private school. The Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund Inc. offers tuition help to families who meet their low-income requirements. Parents Advancing Choice in Education, located in Montgomery County, Ohio, uses funds provided by local leaders and businessmen to help with private school tuition.

    State-Funded Voucher Programs

    • Although some state-funded programs have been challenged, there are still state-funded opportunities available to assist with payment of Catholic school tuition. The Louisiana Student Scholarships for Educational Excellence Program awards tuition assistance for students in K-3 who live in the Orleans Parish and meet low-income requirements. The Ohio EdChoice Scholarship Program provides assistance to attend private school for students whose district school is classified as underperforming.
