Nail files come in various hardnesses including buffers.

People use manicures to clean their nails and make them healthy, and some manicures include a beauty application to the nails. There are many places to buy tools and chemicals for manicures including beauty supply stores, department stores, bath supply stores and specialized nail salons. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Healthy Nails Manicure

    • For a healthy nails manicure, you will need several tools and supplies. Using cotton balls, apply a non-acetone polish remover to remove old nail polish--as this is less harsh on the nails. If you wish to buff your nails instead of painting them, you must apply a fine buff. You will also need a nail file, a nail clipper, a dish to soak your hands in, cuticle cream, an orange wood stick, hand lotion formulated to improve nails, and a damp cloth to wipe away excess moisture.

    Primer Tools

    • Priming nails helps the polish or artificial nails to last longer and keep the nails from becoming infected. For priming nails, you will need a nail file to rough up the surface of the nail. Brush away excess dust with a manicure dust brush, the apply antibacterial spray or gel to disinfect the nails before the rest of the manicure. Push the cuticles back with an orange wood stick, and then apply a manicure pre-primer and primer for the nails with cotton. While using the primer, be careful not to get any on your skin, as it can burn.

    Artificial Nails Tools

    • For artificial nails, there are other tools you will need in addition to the basic tools needed to keep your nails healthy between applications. Different styles of acrylic nails are available depending on your preferences. If you want the nails to last a long time and you know how to fix breaks and chips yourself, go for a more expensive brand. If you want a French manicure, purchase white tips so you do not have to paint the tips white. You will also need acrylic liquid, clear acrylic powder, acrylic nail brushes, and buffers and files of various roughness.

    Nail Painting Tools

    • When painting your nails, you should allow the polish to dry for 30 minutes. Metallic polish lasts longer than ordinary nail polish. For French manicure paint, it is best to buy a kit. The kit will come with tape, which you can apply to the nails to give a perfectly shaped white tip. If you wish for a solid color, you will need a nail buffer, fingernail clippers, a nail file, a base coat, the nail polish and a top coat. You will also need non-acetone nail polish remover to fix mistakes.
