Coffee Cafe Styles
Coffee cafes should be relaxing and inviting places. Coffee is seen as a relaxing break-time beverage that people drink when they need to re-energize. Use music that matches your theme to enhance the other style elements. It's important to choose the style to fit the size of your café and the expected clientele.

Bistro Style
-
If you have a small cafe, the bistro style will fit well. A bistro is a small cafe of European origin. Decorate the coffee cafe with French or Italian scene tile on the walls behind the counter. Paint the walls in neutral yellows and browns and install Tuscan bronze plumbing and light fixtures. Make the most of the small space by using banquette style seating along the walls. Add European-scene art to the walls, such as pictures of the Eiffel tower or the Louvre. Use a traditional looking brass cappuccino machine to add to the ambiance.
Artsy
-
Paint the walls a dark shade and add colorful art all over the walls. Also make the menu board bright and artsy to match the hung art. Use the art of local artists, displayed for sale, on the walls. This is not only a way to decorate your walls for free, but you may be able to get a cut of the sales when the artist sells something from the wall in your coffee shop. Customers will also never get bored of the same art pieces, as they will change when they sell.

Modern Clean
-
Create a place that always feels clean and safe for customers to hang out by using a lot of white and clear in the decor. When mixing coffee and white decor, you want to use materials that are easy to clean, like plastic, vinyl and rubber. Stay away from cotton, canvas or other fabrics that will stain. When you must use fabrics, make sure they are bleach safe and without added patterns so that you can easily throw them in the washing machine with bleach to get stains out. If your space is small, use clear plastic chairs to reflect light and give the appearance of taking up less space, visually.
Traditional Library
-
Create the feel of a traditional library or study by using dark woods and winged back chairs. Give customers a reason to visit other than coffee by adding a wall of books and magazines with a floor-to-ceiling ladder. A study or library is known as a place to sit and relax. This theme works well for college campuses to draw students who can study and enjoy a cup of coffee, or for an older community where people come to relax and read magazines or newspapers.
