Mastering time management is cause for celebration.

With the constant demands of family, friends, a career and hobbies, feeling pressed for time is a common concern. Those who fail to effectively manage their time may find themselves neglecting important duties and suffering from unwanted stress. Fortunately, with a little practice, even the most disorganized person has the ability to master time management, becoming a model of efficiency in the process.

  1. Set Priorities

    • When it comes to time management, everyone has one thing in common: there's never enough time to accomplish everything. Sometimes menial tasks that offer little in the way of fulfillment are exhausting and time-consuming. Before embarking on a project that will drain a large portion of your day, make sure it's absolutely necessary. If not, put it lower on your list, making room for the most important things you need to do at the top.

    Learn How To Say No

    • If you accept every project and task thrown in your direction, not only will you struggle to get it all done, but you will also put yourself through a great deal of unnecessary stress in the process. Any individual who takes time management seriously understands the value of giving a simple "no" when asked to do too much. Remember that you are saying no to the request itself, not to the person, so there's no need to worry about anyone taking it personally.

    Work in Small Intervals

    • Occasionally, you will have a task or assignment that you know needs your attention sooner or later; but because it's so unpleasant, it's easier to put it off and look the other way. Don't give in to the temptation of procrastination. If you dread working on a particular project so much that it causes you significant stress, avoiding it until the last minute will only make it more painful. Instead, work on it in small doses over time, at least 10 minutes a day.

    Make Plans Every Day

    • Before you feel overwhelmed by your various duties and obligations, take a moment to stop and write them all down. Do this every morning before you start your day so you can fit your daily errands into a schedule. Write a to-do list for the day, putting the most important things at the top and check each task off as it's completed. Planning helps you to feel more in control of your life and may make you more efficient as well.
