Baby Adoption Games

Baby adoption games can provide adoptive parents with helpful ideas while everyone has a good time.

An adoption shower is very similar to a baby shower, except the parents are adopting the baby. If you are in charge of throwing an adoption shower, you can make it just as fun as a baby shower by introducing baby adoption games. They create a festive atmosphere and can help the parents feel supported in their decision to adopt. You can use traditional baby shower games and tailor them for an adoption celebration.

  1. Adoption Bingo

    • Adoption bingo is similar to regular bingo, but with words instead of numbers. You can create your own adoption bingo boards by first making a list of words that are related to the process of adoption. Include the names of lawyers, social workers, judges and birth parents. Some phrases to include are "waiting children," "public adoption," "private adoption" and "special needs adoptions," "closed adoption," "international adoption" and either "home study" or "adoption study."

    Fun with Name Selection

    • Choosing a name for a child can be difficult for both birth parents and adoptive parents. Therefore, a name-selection game can be fun at a baby adoption party. Create a worksheet divided lengthwise, one side for boy names and the other for girl names. Place each letter of the alphabet on each side of the page, so that players can write the name of a boy or girl that begins with each letter. Provide these sheets for each guest and the adoptive parents. The person with the most names that no other guest has is the winner. At the end of the game, each player can share her names with the other guests. The adoptive parents can then say which boy and girl names they like best.

    Superstar Adoptions

    • With the superstar adoption game, you will first need to research famous couples or persons who have adopted children. Make a list of those names, then then mix in the names of famous people who have never adopted. Tell players to identify which ones have and have not adopted by placing a "yes" or "no" next to each name. Whoever gets the most correct is the winner.

    Special Readings

    • You can also incorporate special adoption stories, lullabies or even poetry as an introduction to each game. This will keep the party interesting, and serves as additional entertainment. However, you can also incorporate special readings that are educational. The adoptive parents will especially appreciate information about how family and friends can help them once the adoption process is complete.
