Decorations for an Asian Style Bedroom
When designing an Asian-style bedroom, decorations are not only a way to add visual interest to the space, but also authenticity. There are a wide range of decoration options that capture the essence of Asian style, and some can even serve a practical purpose in your bedroom. When adding decorations, however, be careful not to overload the room with Asian inspired items. Instead, focus on two or three statement pieces so your room does not become too busy. Does this Spark an idea?

Screens
-
In an Asian styled bedroom, Shoji screens are an ideal room decoration. While you may not be able to find authentic Shoji screens, you should be able to find alternatives that mimic the same look. Try to find screens that depict Asian-inspired scenes or characters, or that feature the simple clean lines that are customary of most Asian decor. In addition to adding a decorative touch to your bedroom, these screens can also serve a practical purpose by dividing your room into different sections, such as the sleeping area and sitting area.
Lanterns
-
Instead of traditional lamps, consider using Japanese-style lanterns to illuminate your Asian-inspired bedroom. Inexpensive paper lanterns can add color and pattern to your room while providing soft light. However, if you prefer a more elegant look, consider silk lanterns to provide a touch of sophistication and authenticity to your Asian-style bedroom.

Artifacts
-
To give your bedroom a truly authentic feel, decorate the space with items meant to mimic Asian artifacts. A colorful silk kimono may be framed and hung on the wall, while Buddha figurines and other jade statues can be placed on bookshelves or your dresser for added visual interest. Japanese fans or calligraphy drawings of various Asian characters are ideal wall decorations for over your bed, particularly if you do not have a formal headboard. For a more masculine touch, consider hanging samurai swords in your bedroom as well. However, avoid hanging these over your bed because they may cause injuries if they fall.
Candles
-
For simple, elegant decoration, scatter several candles with Asian-inspired aromas throughout your bedroom. The candles may be placed on lacquered trays and surrounded by stones or pebbles for a natural effect that fits the Asian theme. You may also find candle holders with Asian characters or designs, such as lotus flowers, to add a more formal look.
Bonsai and Bamboo
-
Instead of flowers, add a decorative bonsai tree or bamboo plant to your Asian-style bedroom. Nature plays a very important role in Asian decorating, so it is important to add natural elements to your room if you want an authentic look. In addition to these plants, a small trickling fountain may be placed on a table or bookshelf in your room. It will add an interesting decorative touch to your Asian bedroom, and the soothing sounds of the water may help you fall asleep.
