A chipper/shredder converts cut-down trees, bushes and branches into usable mulch. Craftsman, a brand sold by Sears, created the Craftsman 8.5 horsepower chipper/shredder model 247.775880, which was first released in 1996. Craftsman no longer manufactures this machine, but you can still purchase replacement parts for it from third-party vendors. Always wear proper safety gear, including goggles and gloves, when operating a chipper/shredder.
The Craftsman model 247.775880 chipper/shedder produces up to 8.5 horsepower. The fuel tank holds up to 4 qt. of unleaded gasoline, and the crankcase tank holds up to 26 oz. of oil. Use only SAE 30 engine oil when the temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and only use 5W30 engine oil when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The tire pressure is 24 psi. The machine uses a Champion (N4C) spark plug, and the spark plug gap is 0.030. This chipper/shredder comes with a discharge chute, chipper chute, catcher bag and hopper.
You can feed branches and stalks up to 3 inches in diameter into the chipper chute. The hopper handles small branches, twigs and leaves up to 1 inch in diameter. You also have a hopper release bar to lower or raise the hopper into position. The Craftsman chipper/shredder comes with a throttle control, which controls the engine speed, and a rear wheel lock lever, which keeps your rear wheels from moving while you're chipping material. This machine also has a starter handle for starting your engine and a choke lever, which helps you start your engine when it's cold.
Clean your Craftsman model 247.775880 chipper/shedder after every use. Use a hose to run clean water through it, and let it completely dry before using it again. Use cold water to wash the chipper bag. Always check your engine oil before you use your chipper/shredder. After 25 hours of use, clean your engine, and change your engine oil. You must also reset your spark plug and service your air cleaner. Clean your muffler after about 50 hours of use. If you plan on storing your chipper/shredder for the winter, then thoroughly clean the shredder and the engine, and reset your spark plug.
You receive a one year warranty from the original date of purchase, and this warranty covers both labor and material defects. You must properly maintain your chipper/shredder to qualify for warranty service, including tuning up and lubricating the machine. If you're using this chipper/shredder for commercial purposes, then the warranty lasts for 30 days from the original date of purchase. Write down your date of purchase and serial number in your manual, and put it in a safe place. Attach your receipt to your manual as well for proof of date of purchase.
