Many craft project ideas are available with popular symbols of the people of Wales that include the Welsh dragon, love spoon, Celtic knots, daffodils and leeks. Woodworking, needle working, making scrapbooks, jewelry making and kid's crafts are some examples of the types of craft projects you can make with these Welsh symbols for holidays and events.

  1. Welsh Dragon

    • The Welsh dragon is the symbol of pride in the culture of the Welsh nation, and appears on the Welsh flag. Welsh dragon counted cross-stitch and embroidery kits are available for download and purchase (see References), most with the traditional design of the red dragon. Sew finished cross-stitch or embroidery projects onto pillows, or frame them in picture frames to hang on the wall. Transfer Welsh dragon images onto wood projects using transfer paper, and either hand-carve or burn into wood. Purchase Welsh dragon rubber stamps and in scrapbook projects.

    Love Spoon

    • Welsh love spoons are carved spoons that are given as a gift of affection for holidays or events such as weddings, anniversaries, engagements, Valentine's Day or christenings. Carve the spoons with open-linked chain, Celtic knot work and symbols that have specific meanings. Tutorials, carving patterns and supplies for hand-carving love spoons are available (see References). Transfer image designs onto wood with transfer paper for wood burning the images. Counted cross-stitch kits are available in a variety of love spoon styles.

    Celtic Knot

    • Celtic knots, or endless knots, are ancient symbols that represent continuity and interconnectedness, and hold mystical and sacred meanings for the Welsh as well as the Irish and Scottish nations. Celtic jewelry pendants and jewelry findings are available for purchase as are craft necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Books with Celtic knot designs are available in local and online bookstores. Transfer the images to wood projects for carving and burning. Use Celtic rubber stamps for scrapbooks, fabric decorating, and velvet embossing projects. Use Celtic knot patterns for art projects. Needle working kits come in various Celtic knot patterns.

    Daffodil and Leek

    • The Welsh celebrate St. David's Day, the patron saint of the British Isles, with imagery of their emblem, the daffodil and the leek. Purchase cross-stitch and embroidery kits with separate daffodil and leak images, and combine together for a needle-crafted project. Make finished projects into wall hangings, framed or sewn onto linens such as table runners and pillows. Have children make a leek vase out of green and white foam, rolled into the shape of a leek, with a base glued to the bottom.
