Reno is known as the Biggest Little City in the world.

Reno, Nevada is a resort city located on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The mountains form a border between California and Nevada with Reno on one side and Lake Tahoe on the other. Cities in both states are sought out for their seasonal activities like fishing and hiking in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. In Reno, gambling at more than 20 local casinos is one activity residents and visitors alike may enjoy year-round. Day trips to Reno are possible by bus from nearby cities like San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose and Oakland.

  1. Harrah's

    • Harrah's was born in Reno, and has grown to have casinos in many cities throughout the United States. Although it is now called Caesars Entertainment, Harrah's has maintained its Reno roots. Harrah's Reno is a 3-star-rated hotel by AAA. It offers guests seven restaurants, live entertainment and more than 60,000-square-feet of casino playing space, with table games and slot machines. A health club, spa and pool offer plenty to do on a day trip to this casino in Reno.

    Atlantis

    • The Atlantis Casino Resort and Spa sits in the heart of Reno's shopping and restaurant district so a day trip to this casino resort offers the opportunity for expanded shopping and dining beyond what's available at the casino. The Atlantis is a tropical-themed hotel that features waterfalls, trees and thatched huts. Indoor and outdoor pools, as well as more than 1,400 slot machines, a tea lounge and a smoke-free poker room, offer something for every visitor.

    Grand Sierra Resort

    • The Grand Sierra Resort is visited not only by northern Californians and Nevada residents, but also by people all over the country. As the largest resort in northern Nevada, the Grand Sierra has a lot to offer day trippers to Reno. Filled with table games, Keno, speed Keno, slot machines, video poker and a sports book area where sporting bets can be placed, the Grand Sierra offers plenty of classy casino action to its visitors. Guests can even arrange quick ski trips through the hotel to nearby Lake Tahoe ski slopes. Bowling, a thrill park, miniature golf, indoor golf and a driving range are all additional family-friendly activities at the resort.

    Reno Nugget

    • John Ascuaga's Reno Nugget hotel is worth visiting on a day trip to the area, if only to try the Nugget's legendary "Awful Awful" burger, served at Rosie's Cafe. For more than 50 years, the hotel restaurant has served a half-pound burger called the Awful Awful that visitors still indulge in today. The accompanying casino offers more than 75,000-square-feet of gambling space as well as 1,500 slot machines and plenty of table game action.
