Crafts From Recycled CDs & Cases
As technology progresses, some of the devices we use become obsolete. With the onset of MP3 players and digital media, CDs and their cases are being used less often for their intended purposes and are becoming a viable craft item. From coasters to Christmas ornaments, creative crafts from recycled materials not only help protect the environment, but produce some useful items.

CD Case Picture Frame
-
Remove the plastic piece inside the case that holds the CD in place and all paper inserts. Cut pieces of coordinating scrapbook paper to fit inside both the front and back covers of the case. Use glue to attach a photo to both sides of the CD case. Display with the case open so that the photos will be seen.
CD Ornament
-
Create a Christmas tree ornament out of CD. Cover the side of the CD with the writing with green scrapbook paper. Attach a photo on the right side of the covered side and decorate the left side. Be sure to cut off all the excess paper and photo so the CD retains its circular shape. Glue a ribbon down the center to cover the edge of the photo. Make a bow and a loop in a coordinating ribbon. Hot glue the ribbon and loop together, then hot glue the ribbon to the front of the CD at the top so the ornament can hang on the tree. Leave the back side of the CD untouched.

CD Suncatcher
-
Create a suncatcher from old CDs. Decorate the silver side of two CDs using permanent markers, stick on jewels and stickers. Hot glue the two CDs together with the decorated sides facing outward. String embroidery floss through the loop to create a hanger. Hang the suncatcher in a window or somewhere it will reflect light.
CD Coaster
-
Recycle old CDs and create furniture saving coasters. Cover both sides of a CD with Con-Tact paper. Use permanent markers, stickers or paint to create an image on one or both sides of the CD. If you would rather use fabric to create the coasters, cut a circle of fabric, wrap it around the CD and mount a piece of cork to the back to secure the fabric.
