Window Treatments for Arch Windows With Roman Shades

A great deal of custom-built homes constructed these days include arched windows. Many types of window treatments work well in arched windows with Roman or fabric shades. The amount of light entering a particular space will determine the type that works best. Some rooms may need light-filtering window treatments, while other rooms may require that you block the light completely. Some styles of window treatments for arched windows remain stationary, while others adjust to provide just the right amount of light into a room. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Pleated or Fan Shade

    • The most basic of all arched window treatments are the fan-style or pleated window treatments. These arched window treatments come in a variety of fabrics, light diffusing materials and designs. Typically in a fixed position, they are available in movable designs that allow more or less direct light into a room. A variation of this type of arched window treatment is the split fan, which allows even more direct light to pass through. One more advantage is the ease of cleaning. A regular dusting brush or vacuum cleaner are all you need to tidy up.

    Stationary Cellular

    • Available in many varieties, these window treatments typically come pre-made and ready to install. If you're not ordering a standard-sized arched window, leave the measurement and installation of these cellular arch window treatments in the hands of a professional installer. Once in place, they will diffuse direct sunlight and provide soft lighting for any room. This treatment is perfect for irregularly shaped or exceptionally wide arched windows.

    Custom or Ready-Made Wood

    • Wood arches come in ready-made varieties designed to fit the specifications of most major window brands. Custom arch windows require custom-made wood arches, based on the measurements of a particular opening. Some wood arches use premium wood, while others use MDF, a durable wood product that resists cracking, warping and breaking. Typically, these wood arch window treatments allow only a certain amount of light to enter a room. Available in cordless, motorized, blackout and top-down, and can even be made to fit odd-shaped arched windows. Wood arches are typically made for filtering light and will obstruct the view through an arched window.

    Movable

    • These window treatments do not obstruct the view through the arched window. The design is intended to enhance the architectural beauty of arched windows. These window treatments will provide a good fit for imperfect or odd-shaped arch windows. These movable arched window treatments work for windows that have up to a 2-inch variance from a perfect radius. Also available in a motorized version, this treatment will adjust from either side to an open position, closed position or any position in between. The movable arch window treatments are probably the most expensive of all the treatments mentioned here.
