Nursery Themes for Boys
If you're looking into decorating a room to become a nursery for a newly arrived baby boy, you're hardly limited to a plain room devoid of fun. Boys' nurseries can be just as enchanting and exciting as girls' rooms, since the range of themes available is only limited by your imagination. Many of the decorations and items needed to create a theme can be purchased in stores or via specialized websites online. Does this Spark an idea?

Nautical
-
Nautical-themed nurseries can be filled with decorations based around the sea and sailing, with designs such as flags, ship wheels, boats -- from tugs to yachts -- and characters such as naval captains and pirates appearing across crib bedsheets and represented on walls by stencils and murals. Nautical colors to aim for include blues and whites. Decorative objects to place on shelves or hang above a crib include plastic boat toys or lighthouse models.
Nature
-
Nature is endlessly fascinating to baby boys as well as girls. The starting point for a nursery nature theme could be a large wall mural depicting a scene full of both flora and fauna; inspirations for this scene include shipwrecks submerged in the ocean and swarming with marine creatures, or African savannas, complete with herds of gazelle and prowling lions. Environments such as forests can be brought into a nursery by mounting leaves and other pieces of nature on the walls, while a safari theme can be created by choosing animal print rugs and bedding.

Vehicles
-
Baby boys love to play with toys representing vehicles, such as racing cars and planes, and this interest can be borne out in a nursery theme. A suitable wall mural for the nursery could depict a steam train moving along its tracks through a city or countryside scene; if you'd like to base the theme around airplanes, paint the walls blue with white spots to represent clouds, and hang plane models from string nearby. Vehicles have appeared in plenty of children's television shows and in kids-oriented movies, and you should be able to find bed sets and decorations based around hit franchises such as "Thomas and Friends" and Disney's "Cars."
Outer Space
-
The solar system and astral phenomena make for a stellar nursery theme. You can paint stars onto the walls and ceiling of the room to give the impression of the child being in space, or stick on glow-in-the-dark stars which you can purchase in stores. A solar system mobile, depicting the planets in their position in relation to each other, is a suitable finishing touch.
